i'm working on planning longterm projects for the organization where i work. the projects have to do with art, culture, society, and young people. What is gender? How would you define it? What makes a person a certain gender rather than another? In Arabic there are two translations for the word gender- the first is النوع الإجتماعي Alnaou' Alijtimai' (the social type) or جندرة Jandara (which is a phonetic translation of gender). What defines one's gender?

Yesterday, i saw a woman turning around in her car seat to beat the crap out of whichever child her ragging fist hit. Tiny kids sat in the back getting these blows. i honked to tell her someone can see what she is doing. My friend said it was none of my business. The police car right next to her did nothing. How much longer will child and woman battery be a private issue? When will we all honk our horns?
