The protagonist in Vonnegut's book "Hocus Pocus" writes a list of the persons he'd killed in Vietnam and says that the list will include dates and places of each person, and will not include "possibles and probables, or those killed by artillery or air strikes called in by me, and surely not all those, many of them Americans, who died as an indirect result of all my hocus pocus, all by blah blah blah." How are the casualties of war calculated? Shouldn't all those involved in wars be brought to justice for crimes against humanity? Shouldn't they be tried as criminals of war? How come some leaders are brought to the International Criminal Court and others not?
