As a writer, I've learnt that the creative process seems to come hand in hand with procrasination. It wasn't until I realized what what bothering me/causing my anxiety (As Alma mentioned) that I managed to solve the procrasination. Kill the anxiety, by overcoming it, and hopefully everything will be fine. For me, I discovered that I'm constantly worried about editing, so I polished my editing skills a lil' bit.

I would say set deadlines and meet them. Thats what works for me. I also try to add a little reward at the end. A long break, a personal phone call (if Im at the office), a nice meal, something for me.

Procrastination in psychology is a way of avoiding something, a form of anxiety. Although it is normal for all people to avoid doing certain things, it is the chronic procrastination that is a problem. Procrastination might also be a symptom of other issues such as depression, self-esteem, even perfectionism.

So, perhaps first you should see if you are a chronic procrastinator or not. If you are then maybe you have a more pressing issue than the act of avoiding doing work. If you are not, then it is perhaps a fear and anxiety, which means you should “feel the fear and do it anyway.” Set a time when you decide you will do your art work, tell those who are around you that this is your time to do this task, walk into the space, and start working. Just start working on your task. Do not answer any calls, have all your needs around you, do not stop until you are well into your work. Take a break when you are in the flow of things not when you are stuck, it is much easier to return to a task that was involving than one that was boring, hard, or tiring.
