We often hear that if we did not experience "bad" days that we would not appreciate the good days. I am not sure that is true. I do not think that we need war to appreciate peace, or experience the ugliness of greed to value generosity. I think that perhaps we are socialized to take beauty for granted, thus only seeing the ugly and thinking we need it in order to see beauty. Perhaps if we are taught differently we would no longer feel this way.
