tip We shouldn't criticize the Jordanian "angry mask" unless we give the Jordanians what it takes to take it off!

I don't think a solution for the frown-syndrome is anywhere near us at this point. for I believe it's essentially because of a low temper-threshold, people here have the habit of being ticked-off by the smallest of affairs; a piece of gossip, a 5 minutes wait at the traffic light, somebody not returning a hello, ... the small matter of a 100JDS by the end of the month to pay for rent and so on. Instead of going out of your daily pattern of days to address your frustration towards what really matters.

so nearly slaves to routine, you can't be ticked off by as many incidents, and be able to smile, since you are pre-occupied by your discomfort. well, rumor has it, that they are happy that way, it creates a balance. since we don't really have much else that we can afford to worry about and sweat on.

It doesnt worry me much the fact that they don't smile. time solves all. we may want to start telling better jokes or something. I guess, it's simply the influence a city has on it's inhabitants, Jordanian villagers are way better off. go see, and don't forget to wear a smile.

: )

@ Leerna, trust me, it takes understanding to take it off...

@ razano, I haven't been to Egypt, Syria, nor Lebanon... so I can't judge their attitude.

@ Leerna again. I believe that all of our feelings are contageous

@ BlueDolphin, take a look at "most" of the people who use the bus early in te morning! "mostly" non of them smiles back!

@ razano again, it could be, along with many other reasons, the financial situation is a motivation here in Jordan (and everywhere), not to forget how hard it is for people to self-actualize...

Just had this thought, could the reason for the Jordanian "angry mask" is that a good number of the population are not living in Jordan by choice? Palestinian/Iraqi/Other refugees?

Generally speaking we initially have this mask but once you talk to this person the next time you ll find a genuine greeting and smile.

Besides I don't think we have more angry mask than other people. Just smile to any one in the street, shop, restaurant and they will smile back to you.

I don't beleive this angry mask was there all the time. There are reasons for it, but some people just lost track of the reason and wore it on out of common practice...

Just as an agry mask could have been contageous all those decades, a smiling pleasant one could be double contageous if we start to spread it around :-)

Yes, what could that be?  But seriously what do Jordanian suffer more than Egyptians, Lebanese or Syrians??

If the water situation was not that bad in Jordan or the world i would think that an artificial water front/lake would do the trick!

What does it take to take it off Mohammad?
