tip In the world, which in your opinion has more power- gender or skin color? I ask because the presidential 'race' in the USA is bringing these issues into debate. Perhaps the answers are also location sensitive; i.e. USA vs. Colombia. What do you think?

I guess that gender took over race in case of today's news of Obama claiming Democratic victory in the US presidential elections.

I am inclined to think that most people would choose a president in the US in a way similar to how Noura is thinking about it; i.e. “even though I personally would choose a woman/black candidate, I will choose the white man in order to make sure we do not have a republican again.” This is a similar argument for why individuals who wish to vote for a third party, such as the Green Party, would not because they do not want to “waste” a vote on a loosing party and increasing the chances of a “worse” evil winning. It is often said in the US that people vote to the “lesser of two evils.” How much longer will this go on? Personally, I do not vote for either of the two parties. This of course gives me an excuse not to think about the dilemma of gender vs. skin color. Yet, politically and socially, the issue of gender and skin color is a pressing issue, because I think that this division caters for the white rich man. How much longer (again) will we have to follow his twisted systems?

I think a male (regardless the race)  is thought to be more powerfull, but in terms of the residential race its necktoneck! Though I secretly think that when it comes down to it, the voters are gona pick someone else a "safe choice" i.e. a white male because ultimatly its gona be democartes vs. republicans... and as a democrate I wouldnt want to risk an unsafe choice (black male, white female) vs. a white male republican!

i am very curious about this as it is a question on the table because of the "race" between hilary and obama. i am very interested. i feel that women are really low on the scale of things. down, way down. this election is interesting.

Good question, and leads to much speculating of gender versus race... Seeing how the states is at the moment you are more likely to have a woman president rahter than a black/coloured man (seriously I can not put a Politically correct euphemism here).

Not because one is better than the other but because of the white mans fear it is that simple.

I am not that decided on this but i am inclined more into thinking that gender comes before skin in today's world. Under that thoguht the order would be like this: white-male, black-male, white-woman, black-woman.

great question Alma. Its a very compex question that relates to how we view ourselves and how we view the world around us, our prejeducies, our histories and our own personal journies.

I think our identies come in to play here and it may be location senstive as much as it is indvidual sensative. There is a collective history that a nation/ state shares and maybe that comes into play too. Who knows?!
