tip Do you love Art? Do you want more artists in your environment? If governments add a tax for every citizen to support artists would that sound like something you would support?

Rand thats a bit drastic never seeing art again. I think that I agree with you on the priority between the two but I think that we do need to pay taxes if we expect the government to provide services to us. Nothing is free. But for what we are paying in taxes then I expect a certain level of service. I also think taxation should be based on income and so society shares the responsibility in a manner that is based on wealth distribution.

The arts have always found funding in other ways. So I would love to continue to see arts and if people could and are so inclined then they can fund them, something we see all the time.

The last thing this country needs is more taxes. I've been thinking about your question for the past couple of days and it really upsets me to think that you actually thought of it as a solution.

i don't think Jordanians can afford more taxes. And don't get me wrong, i appreciate artists and art in general, but if i had to choose between never seeing a piece of art and imposing taxes on people...you know which one i would go for.

No on the taxes. I love art but I think there are more important things for our taxes to go to, like education, health, sanitation, infrastructure and such.

I think the arts can be supported by funding dedicated to that volentaraly and not imposed on people. I am still miffed at the TV tax I have to pay.

The quick answer is No.

The detailed answer:

1- I'm against  adding taxes as the first remedy to every problem we have. This indicates lack of creativity and effort from the government side. Sounds like Democrats in the US.

2- If the government wants to help, let them help the artists by the following:

a. Allow them to rent exhibition facilities for cheaper price in exchange of revenue sharing

b. Gvie them advertisement place on government controlled media (Thank God, we don't have lack of this!)

c. Give artists tax breaks and allow them to accept donations.

i'll assume that your definition of art is general. I've had the chance to work on an engagement with a local film production company, been able to meet with some of the "fannanneeen" and took a look on the financial capabilities of the industry in general. It actually enjoys financial stability but lacks skill and touch.

What we need is skill development rather than financial resources accumulation... and being an ex-professional pianist, art is pretty cheap! all you need is just time.
