tip Captain Abu Raed is the first Jordanian Feature film since a struggle in Jerash. It is now showing in the theaters here, have you seen the film and if so what was your opinion?

By the way is it my imagination or has anyone else noticed the trend that even the smallest constructive critique  of Captain Abu Raed is tantamount to treason! I just thought we were allowed to voice an opinion or two, the operative word is CONSTRUCTIVE here, it seems that people are forgetting that C.A.R. is a first feature film for a first time director (his short films notwithstanding). And if we want to critique it, we have to be constructive, and not blinded by emotionalism, and blind faith in that whatever we produce it is good. Everything has good side and bad sides.

And critique should be welcomed as that is the way we grow! If we don't get criticism then we stagnate, but it is also up to us how we accept critique too.

Also if it was as bad a script as some say and the film was mediocre then how come the audience at Sundance loved it (it did win the audience award) ? Was there a Jordanian conspiracy to get it to win, did we lobby that well, if so then damn we should be able to lobby for palestine too!

i enjoyed it from beginning till the flag went on a crazy nationalist propganda trip and i was happy with the woman pilot role, however, i must say i foudn the film mediocre at best.

why?

the script was terribly weak: the dialogue boring and the pauses too long. somebody should have burned this script way back. undeveloped shallow characters, i was not impressed with the acting abilities of any of the actors, the only character that made sense and i enjoyed being introduced to was the co-janitor at the airport. he made sense, he was funny, he became that role. this was a good actor. I did not appreciate the overdramatised music, irrelevant and superimposed. i am not sure the story works in general.

it is not valid to say it was good for a first jordanian film. this is not a proper category for filmmaking. furthermore, there are lots of films arond us which we can learn a great deal from, moroccan, tunisian, syrian, palestinian and more.

:-)

Positives: A good film quality, nice story, nadeem, Rana Sultan (Who did a damned good job for a first time actress), Amin who was a sweetheart to work with.

Negatives: Too many unfinished storylines, characters weren't explored fully (which I think was more due to time constraints), and some realism and authenticity problems.

But as a first time film it did its job it brought the attention we were seeking and that it got Sundance's Audience prize and DIFF best actor award to Nadeem excellent

But I am biased since I worked on it, but I think I can judge it as well as others.
