I thought that WordPress blogs automatically created feeds... The way I've got it set up it does.

I thought feedburner was more to promote your blog, as you can in, say Technorati and other sites.

What I'm not sure about now is how you'd track how many readers you have, given that people have so many ways of subscribing to feeds (e.g. through bloglines, their browser, Google Reader, etc., etc, etc, )

Syndication/RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a technology that publishes information on the web, from one website into another or into your reader. So to get news from BBC Online or someone's blog, you subscribe to its feed, and it automatically feeds news items into your feed reader without having to go into the website it self.  More on RSS on Wikipedia

Aggregator/Feed Reader is a tool, web-based (Google Reader) or desktop-based (your browser/Outlook) that reads multiple feeds for you to read and browse through. More on Aggregators on Wikipedia

To create a feed you can go to FeedBurner.com and create an RSS feed for your blog.
