Thanks guys for your commnts and answers, the reason of asking this question is I always find people under estimate screenplay writers in the showbiz field, I agree with you that being a director will give you more space to implement your thoughts and ideas on the screen but if you ever grabbed a screenplay and read it you will be able to draw the whole movie in your imagination, screenplay writeres are very talented in describing characters scenes and making the whole plot in words only.

I'm not saying directing is nothing but a translation to the movie script but I say movie script is the first step and the most important one in making a movie so I prefer to be a writer and I think writers must have the same appreciation as directors.

DISCLAIMER: Now after shouting out my opinion I want to say that I'm not affiliated with screenwriters guild in any way, in fact I never finished a movie script but once I will and then I want my name to appear just beside the director's :P Walid I may give you a role in the movie ;)

I want it all and I want it now! :-) Writing, Directing, and acting in... I am used to mounting full scale stage shows, so the jump from there to film not a stretch. I used to come up with the concept, and implementation, design the costumes and make up and find the talent too. I loved it, But now I need someone with a business background to help me focus because I spread myself to thinly.

Jack of all trades & MAster of them all! :-)

I like directing more as well, with excellent direction you can transform a mediocre story into a brilliant film using many tools.

Directing is the art of re-writing the storyline by enforcing it further, motioning it towards a certain theme, adding or subtracting something to it,, creating another plot within a plot,, the list goes on and on.

The difference is you change the story line not with words but rather using actors, movement, sounds, effects... so its sort of has the same power of writing but with more control..

Directing... I love to write but the transforming of the written word to a visual reality is a spectaculatr process I think and I would love to do that.

Do you have any openings?

a lot of artists do both.. but since in this question we have to chose.. hmmm... I would say director, since I have the love of control.. that's 1, 2; in movies the director make the movie.. opposite to tv drama where the script (i.e. writer) makes most of the work.. I hope that helped
