Blogspot on the other hand is more for those who do want to keep a blog and want to be semi-"discreet" about it, not really wanting to trumpet their writings. Which sort of goes against the whole blog thing but what the hey.

I guess it depends why you want to keep a blog. If you're looking primarily to save a log of websites, with your comments about them (which is what the earliest blogs were), then blogspot might suit you. Equally, if you want to keep an online diary (which many are using blogging tools for), then LiveJournal, which lets you set quite a lot of restrictions about who can see what post, then that might suit you.

If, however, you want as many people as possible to read your blog, as well as the platform (Blogspot & WordPress.com are pretty good for lots of traffic), you need to ensure that you publicise your RSS feed, post comments on other's blogs, post your URL to as many different blogging aggregators as possible etc., etc,.

It all depends on what you motivations for keeping a blog are.

there is widgets that can do that for you... no need for hand coding, see my blog, it's on wp platform:

gyonis.com

it has a rss subscription, poll.. nothing is hand coded, all widgets, you can get’em from wordpress.org

one more thing.. it's a lot better if you get a domain (no need for hosting) just get a domain and forward it to your wp url

".. the start of hosted service WordPress.com to expand WP's reach, the founding of Automattic by several core members of the WP team"

Alma... really? this is serious... where can I read that? I don\\\'t want anyone to have copyright over my work!!!

update: I found this here... and I think it shows that the copy right is mine...

Hello; I have used blogger before, but not any more. I finally read the small print and it says that anything I write is owned by blogger and they have the copy rights for it. Therefore, I stopped using it. I do not care to have the work copy-righted to me, but certainly not to blogger. WordPress might be a better option but I do not know enough about them.

I like WordPress www.wordpress.com Been using it for a year now, before that I used blogger www.blogger.com

WordPress's administration pannel is rich with several features and its completely customizable. With its large developer network you have a choice of adding several plug-ins like a calendar, a mailing list...etc. completely transforming your blog into an actual website.

But new blogging platforms are appearing on the radar, consider www.tumbler.com.

To answer in more detail:

Myspace is really  really popular for those who have (and want) their blogs to get read by the max. amount of people, it is also a way of social networking.

Blogspot on the other hand is more for those who do want to keep a blog and want to be semi-"discreet" about it, not really wanting to trumpet their writings. Which sort of goes against the whole blog thing but what the hey.

Check them out, see which suits your pace and enjoy!
