tip Apparently there is a law in Egypt that prohibits men to marry women that are more than 25 years younger. Law was first issued when the government noticed that a number of older men from the gulf regions were marrying Egyptian women younger than them. The law was issued to protect women in the country from trafficking. Exceptions are if such a man deposits $8,000 under the woman's name in the bank!

I personally think that 15 years is the maximum age gap that should be in any relationship! What do you think?

The law in Jordan has been ammended it is 18 to marry for males and 16 for females with the need for parental consent  and for a court approval if younger.

In Egypt legal age to marry is: 18 for males and 15 for females, a court permission can be granted for other cases.

In Jordan: 16 for males and 15 for females (!) with court permission required for females under 18 to marry men older by 20 years or more.

Yes, there is a generation gap, yet, I think that some individuals, especially in Europe and women, take better care of themselves and are much more accustomed to technology than people in the Arab world and certainly more than men in the Arab World.

I too don't believe laws should be enacted to control personal choices. Yet I can't seem to think any relationship with more than 15 years of age gap can work even if one of two was older than 25. And I agree with Baker, the intellectual life view changed dramatically with Generation Y, the Internet generation.

Hmmm if both are concenting adults then its no one business, government or otherwise.

But there are issues trafficing, rich vs poor, awarness and education in the situations u are mentioning and I think the law should be changed to say something along the lines of mandatory marriage counseling sessions should be taken making the two aware of what they are getting into.

As for the money deposit well... we now know how much a woman costs in egypt! I wonder how they came up with that price? was it weight in gold or the cost of a good divorce lawyer?

i have a friend who is 33 who married a man who is 62. She is happy, sex life is great, and all is good under the sun.

i think we need to protect women's rights, the government and the institute of marriage are not my options for how to protect women.

In conclusion, relationships are complex and a set age difference is perhaps an issue. What i would like to see if women who are 62 years olf marrying men who are 33.

If both are over 25 then I think its okay at least they've lived, but for a  for example let's say 65 year old to marry an 18 year old is reprehensible. But much can be overlooked when money is changing hands!

15 years difference used to be a maximum gap, before the revelation of "Net Generation", which, i title as "NGEN's".

NGEN's made the information that is available out there, to be available in here, inside the house, through a tiny screen. The exposure of general mass has been increasing ever since, everyone knows anything at anytime. And here come the individuality of a single human.

Individuality has made the criteria of building a relation goes in parity with our aspiration and little worlds. yes, everyone has his a her little own worlds. this has made the maximum difference relatively increases, and i believe it is 7 or 8 years at max. the less the better, the more the gap the more the problems.

I don't think 13 is possible! I think in egypt s like here.. 18 is the legal age..

I still think 15 is too much a decade maybe??

I once read a book which tackles human trafficking in Egypt, so sad. Such a stupid ill-studied law: $8,000 is pocket change to people like that... And in no way does it solve the problem, it only justifies the motive (enforced by the government) of those undereducated parents to traffic their own children!  It’s like saying yes it is OK for your 13 year old daughter to marry the 65 year old man who has four wives one of which died recently as long as he can give you money…  Argggggggghhh
