tip The number of women who have been physically or verbally harrased on the streets of Amman has increased in the last month. I have heard more stories in teh last 10 days about harrasment than all winter.

So have I.

And they are first hand accounts one as recently as two days ago on the main street in front of the Radisson SAS hotel, and no one came or stopped to help the girl...

It has increased and the type of harrassment has gotten worse. In the past it was only talk now it has turned physical. Also in the past when someone attacked a girl let's say downtown or groped her, you could be sure if they caught the guy in that instant he'd have the crap beaten out of him. Nowadays the guys just stand there and laugh it off.

Think about it the population has increased and with that increase comes the increase in incidents like these, and Amman is not the safe city it once was. Taxi's aren't safe anymore, walking is a health hazard, but more importantly how are the powers that be tackling it, they are quite powerless to do anything about it, and we certainly can't affor CCTV (close circuit television) on all the streets of Amman.

And if anyone says the girls are to blame then they have their heads stuck up their behinds so far that its the only sign of intelligence they've experienced.

I've been hearing first hand stories lately as well, its getting ridiculous, dangerous and annoying depends on the incident. lets face it Amman with its men mentality is harsh on women and that should change.

Ghassan, as a woman who has lived in Amman for the last 20 years I can tell you first hand that in the summer the number of times I get harrsed is higher than the rest of the year.

The issue is more women are being harrased, they are more vocal about, and finally some are even reporting it to the police!

The legitamcy men give them selves to oogle, cat call, whistle, make comments, touch, hit a woman on the street is unexcusable. even if it isnt on the increase!

yeah, but you can't say that harassments increased or decreased in all of amman based on that!
