Such aliens will have to do two things to really undermine religions:

1- Create a life out of dead ingrediants and material.

2- Bring back life to some kind of a sophisticatd life form after it's announced dead.

i believe that in Christianity and Islam, the above two challenges are considered to be 'Godly' challenges. Other than that, aliens will be considered just another creation that happens to be technologically more advanced.

I don't think so. Religions will always find a way to "incorporate", or integrate new findings within their schemes of "existence". I can give you right now a certain interpretation of other "non-visible" aliens by just saying they are a specific kind of "Jin". The word "Jin" in Arabic is taken from the verb "janna" (جنّ) which means to be hidden. As you can see this is an amazingly wide concept that you can incorporate "non-visible" aliens under it... :).

There will always be new interpretations of new facts. There will always be new schemes of thought based on previous ones.... I am sorry to disappoint you :)

Ummm.. It wouldn't for me, I'm a skeptic person, and my skepticism has lead me to the beliefe that there is a God, a higher power... and I don't think that aliens would change my view on that, I would rationalize it... NO SWEAT!! :P   As for Kurt... "But I will say this: religions, all religions (monolithic and otherwise), will see their end one day and other belief systems will take their place. Maybe the aliens would bring those with them!"   Well.. I've heard that theory before - withoutthe aliens part :P - But, don't you think it's a bit too harsh? I mean, No religion has faded away, you can always find followers, even if it turned into a cult, it would still have followers!

The link i made between the two, that these religions are so based on earth and specific part of our world and planet. So my quest relates if the discovery of other life beyond our plant would end these religions or will they be able to adapt and as Shalabieh mentioned...its scholars would rationalize and enable these religions to go on. Hope that helps.

I would agree with D on that the relationship between aliens and religion is unclear. But I will say this: religions, all religions (monolithic and otherwise), will see their end one day and other belief systems will take their place. Maybe the aliens would bring those with them!

i have not thought anout the relation beterrn finding alien existance and religions. what is the relation?

i am not big on believing things i cannot see. however, if i do not see them that do not mean they do not exist necessarily. works for all of the above mentioned.

I dont think so... i have not seen any discourse on either side and I think that it can be rationalized, if religion can be rationalized that god created all sorts of beings some on earth and others not.

And then you have the stories of creation that will be shattered...

i guess it can go both ways...

So Zeeno have you heard anything that we havnt? Are there anything you want to share about certain aliens?
