Reminded me of a song called Locking up the sun by Poets of the Fall! xD

Anyway, part of this is because of the religious teachings, where people depend on a holy being to save them and protect them from evil.

People, generally, need a person, or atleast the idea of a person or a being that is able to help, protect and save them, it's our way of feeling safe.

As children, we used to look up for our parents for protection, when we grow up, we start noticing that our parents are humans just like us, not super-creatures who can protect us from everything we go through, so we start searching for a higher power to protect and save us!

That's my explaination, I hope you didn't find me too "Mfalsaf"! xD

Could also be the myth of that perfect one!

My thoughts on this are that instead of waiting for the perfect one why not try and get the self as close to perfection as possible. Also to be independant, secure and not to need "Someone" to "Complete" them. Relationships should be entered into as two whole complete individuals, not unequal parts where the one completes the other, which is a recipe for disaster. It is  one of those phrases that really makes me see red, "So-and-so" Completes me/her/him, what a load of nonsense complete yourself and be happy that way you will attract someone who is worthy of your love or whatever not some useless half-being! MY 2 cents here! :-)

According to the wikipedia dictionary "Savior or Saviour refers to a person who helps people achieve salvation, or saves them from something." Salvation is the act of protecting or saving someone from harm.

Therefore, perhaps the need for "the one" comes from the desire to be taken care of and perhaps even loved. But the question that presents itself is that- can one be "saved" if one does not save himself?

There is a quest about this on this site “If you can't seem to help your self get out of trouble, I believe no one else can” by Salma. If this is true, then the saviour is irrelevant. Yet, perhaps the one is not a god almighty but a friend who gives us a word of wisdom or someone who helps us though a rough time. Maybe we just need to change our perception of “the one” and give greater attention to the “ones” whom without their presence in our lives we would be lost.

Yeah I agree, there is some truth to that.

I think that part of it is the laziness of wanting to do the work that "one" is expected to do.
