I live in Amman-Jordan, and we are up against a parliamentarian election on November 20. I find this campaign interesting because there are lots of posters and signs that are filled with slogans that are very generic such as “Jordan is for everyone,” “women is half of society, not a marginal bystander;” slogans that any 4th grader can come up with. It is strange that there isn’t a platform to meet more than one candidate and ask them their opinions on specific issues- such as honor killings and prisoner rehabilitation, and other issues.
Culturally, Amman just witnessed the fifth Meeting Points- a festival of contemporary art. It was great. I saw the Brazilian dance performance, Kamilia Jubran, and went on the Cargo Sofia-Amman truck. I had a great time. Alternative culture events are growing in Amman, I like it.
