tip I learned the last year during Ramadan, and mind you from a westerner that the proper response to Ramadan Kareem is Allah Akram. Intersting!

in my teens and early 20's, I didn't know what exactly to say in funerals.. so once I say "ok", another time "yella" or "baseta"

Really?! just last year?

yeah it happens with me with some other phrases which I don't know how to respond to, and the best thing I can do then is to fire back the same phrase as a response, so if I don't know how to respond on "Ramadan Kareem" I say "Ramadan kareem" too, but be careful this technique can't go with all phrases like when you are sick and some one says "Salamtak" you can't say "Salamtak" too :))
